Various rumors and speculations have been surfacing on the Internet as to what Nintendo NX could be. However, with alleged patent applications for the said device leaking online, the latest in the rumor mill is that Nintendo NX may actually be a handheld console that can be attached to a television set and become a home console.

According to reports, there are three patent leaks that are believed to be that of Nintendo NX. It has been learned that the first among the leaked patents comes with a description of "a portable game apparatus including a display and a camera provided behind the display." As the description says that the device comes with a display, it is now assumed that Nintendo NX will be a portable console in the event that the said patent leak is really that of Nintendo NX.

Meanwhile, reports also say that the second patent leak describes the device as capable of capturing images and displaying a characteristic feature of the taken image on its display. Then, a virtual character will be superimposed on the said image, according to its description. With this, suspicions that Nintendo NX will offer augmented reality has become even more intense.

Finally, the third patent leak shows physical buttons of an attaching accessory that docks on the device. Instead of a USB connector, the device will sync with the use of infrared in order for the inputs of the button to be read by the device.

Other sources claim that another patent leak for the alleged Nintendo NX is a gesture-based technology, which means that games to be played on the alleged upcoming console won't depend on a controller. Reportedly, the console is capable of reading the hand gestures of a player via an infrared camera and assess what action needs to be done.

However, everything at this point in time is nothing more than a speculation. Whether the aforementioned alleged features of Nintendo NX are true or not, the only way to find out is to wait for the unveiling of the product next month before it gets released in March next year.
