Nintendo Switch price rumors, release date: Leaks point to $200-$250 price range; console to arrive on March 17?

(Facebook/NintendoSwitch)The Nintendo Switch is rumored to be priced around 200 to 250 dollars.

Nintendo is set to reveal more details about its upcoming hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch, this week. However, that has not stopped leaks from escaping their well-guarded castles. And according to a new one, the Nintendo Switch may just be affordable enough to compete with existing consoles.

Predicted to retail at around $250 in the United States, Engadget reports that this leak came from Nikkei — a reliable site that has delivered some accurate Nintendo intel in the past. However, it should be noted that this is merely an estimate and is not the exact retail price attached to the hybrid console. The website states that the Nintendo Switch could sell for ¥25,000 in Japan, so Western prices will still depend on exchange rates.

Another leak in the form of UK retail site GameSeek states that the price could land within the same $200–$250 range. The website lists the Nintendo Switch for £198.50, which is approximately around $234.66. The listing comes as a bit of a surprise since the console has not yet been released. Price details and regional release dates have not been announced either, so it is also worth noting that GameSeek has the hybrid console marked for a March 17 release.

The date falls well within the release window Nintendo revealed. However, it is also important to take into consideration that the date and price listed on the website could just be placeholders. This is common practice among online retailers, so fans should take this news with a grain of salt for now.

Specs-wise, the Nintendo Switch has been getting a lot of traction in the media, especially due to its unique portable feature. And while the Japanese gaming company has yet to officially reveal the specifications of the console, it has been rumored that it will not have current-gen ports or a replaceable battery.

Since nothing can be known for sure, eager fans should wait for Nintendo's upcoming announcement this week.
