'No Man's Sky' release date confirmed for Aug. 9; game producer Sean Murray explains delay

The overly hyped and highly anticipated "No Man's Sky" is finally set to be released next month, much to the relief of its fans and game developer Sean Murray. But will the game live up to expectations?

Ever since "No Man's Sky" was revealed way back in 2014's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and was chosen as "Best Original Game" and "Best Independent Game," gamers have been eagerly waiting for this groundbreaking adventure survival game to be released.

The game was originally slated to be released on June 21 but was delayed to August. Now, the game has been confirmed to be arriving in North America on Aug. 9, Europe in Aug. 10, and the United Kingdom on Aug. 12.

Fans who were expecting to see more of what the game has to offer were disappointed when Hello Games skipped this year's E3, prompting founder Sean Murray to take to Twitter and explain that his team decided to use the time to make the game better.

Murray also took the time to update fans on the game's progress on its blog, saying that the game is getting better and that "it's amazing to see it all coming together."

As for the delay, Murray pointed out that "this is a type of game that hasn't been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation." He also acknowledged his hardworking team and the fact that they ony have one shot to make the game right.

Unfortunately, despite all the hard work Murray and the rest of "No Man's Sky's" development are doing, some gamers appear to be gearing up for disappointment, pointing to the high level of expectation and the fact that a lot of fans are still uncertain of what the game really is about. There are also some concerns that popular features like multiplayer and VR functions are missing.

But with the game just weeks away from being released, the gaming community will soon find out if all the hype and accolades accorded to "No Man's Sky"are justified.

"No Man's Sky" is set to be released on the PlayStation 4 and on PCs on Aug. 9.
