With Nokia entering the world of virtual reality with its OZO camera, it seems highly likely that the company will soon bring out a headset to compliment it. However, right now, the big fight is between the Oculus Rift and the Project Morpheus.

Nokia OZO

The launch of the Nokia OZO came as a surprise as many expected that the company would throw its hat into the VR sphere with a headset. With the new camera however, Nokia has showed the world a truly unique device. It is spherical and comes with eight cameras and microphones. These allow for recording videos in 360 degrees including up and down. This brings a big leap in quality especially when compared to other cameras which are constrained to record in the horizontal plane.

With the OZO, as videos are recorded, they can be combined to create a low resolution feed for viewing in real-time. Software helps stitch together the captured shots seamlessly to create high-resolution videos for virtual reality headsets.

Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift comes with a headset, a camera to capture movement and a controller for an Xbox One, but there are Oculus Touch controllers also available in "half moon" shapes. Putting together all of these make up the Oculus Rift package. However, the headset is at its heart and it is pretty similar to the others available in the market as it offers the same 100 degree field of view.

Also, the Rift is designed to fit on any head and the distance between the two lenses can be adjusted until the wearer is comfortable. Finally, when it comes to display quality, the Rift has two OLED lenses with a resolution of 2160×1200 at 90Hz. Plus, it offers a better experience to gamers.

Project Morpheus

The Project Morpheus VR headset is tracked by a camera on the PS4 and can be used with two controllers, the DualShock 4 controller or the PlayStation Move. It has a slightly bigger 110 angle when it comes to its field of view and has a screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which has been split into two.

This means that when compared to the Oculus Rift, the screen is not as sharp. There are even times that the pixels are visible to the naked eye when gaming. However, in terms of design, the Project Morpheus is ahead as it has a better look and feel thanks to its streamlined design and a cool blue glow that emanates from the device.
