With the launch of the GeForce GTX 1080 graphics processsing unit (GPU) at the beginning of this month, NVIDIA has been capturing headlines. Now, as the GeForce GTX 1080 heads to the market, analysts are expecting that it quickly and easily overshadows competitors and other offerings from NVIDIA when it comes to gaming and more.

Referring to the GeForce GTX 1080, which is based on the new Pascal architecture, Forbes states that it is going to rank first in a number of aspects. Among these is the 8 GB of Micron GDDR5X, which is a new type of graphics memory which its competitor, AMD, has not used in any of its cards. Also, the 16nm FinFET manufacturing process has helped the GeForce GTX 1080 GPU come with 7.2 billion transistors built into a smaller space.

More importantly, the GeForce GTX 1080 is currently ranked better than the TITAN X which is costlier. In terms of power, the GeForce GTX 1080 is able to pump out 29% more performance compared to the TITAN X. Also, when it comes to power consumption, the GeForce GTX 1080 provides a lot of benefits as it only uses about 180 watts.

Where the Pascal architecture is especially helpful is in VR performance and this will likely mean that the GeForce GTX 1080 is going to be superior to similar products. Compared to the TITAN X, the GeForce GTX 1080 delivers double the performance but Forbes states that developers of games will have to employ the SDK which comes with simultaneous multi-projection (SMP).

Even as NVIDIA was making the GeForce GTX 1080 GPU official, it took pains to outline that its price at $599 will make it cheaper than the TITAN X. However, the competition to this particular card is due to arrive soon in the form of the Polaris GPU, which is upcoming from Advanced Micro Device (AMD). This competition is especially going to heat up if NVIDIA brings out a cheaper GTX "1060" and prices it to take on the Polaris GPU, which is expected to release on June 1.

The GeForce GTX 1080 GPU goes on sale this Friday, May 27.
