NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti vs GTX Titan X specs, features, news: GTX 1080 Ti has lower TFLOPS but can still perform faster?

(Facebook/NVIDIA)Graphics card maker NVIDIA is reportedly eyeing on releasing the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti which could compete the Titan X.

Graphics card maker NVIDIA is reportedly eyeing on releasing the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, which is expected to go up against the GTX Titan X. Here is a comparison of the two graphics cards' specs.

According to reports, the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti will be boasting a GP102 GP with 3328 CUDA cores, 208 texture mapping units, 160 render output units, and a base clock of 1503 mHz. All in all, it will have a computing horsepower of 10 teraflops (TFLOPS) in total. It can be said that the 1080 Ti could have figures that could match up with its predecessor, the Titan X Pascal.

Apparently, it has been a while since Titan X has been rumored to be getting an upgrade or a midrange refresh. There are speculations that the GTX 1080 Ti could come with 12 GB GDDR5X of memory. However, there are others who predict that it could only come with 10 GB of video RAM.

There are even speculations that the GTX 1080 Ti will be getting a much higher number of cores with 3584 cores. If this turns out to be true, then the Titan X could be in a disadvantage with only 2560 cores.

However, it is possible that the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti has slower computing speed with 10 or 10.8 TFLOPS. The GTX Titan X currently runs on 11 TFLOPS.

Based on numbers, it looks like Titan X still has the upper hand since the GTX 1080 Ti seems to be getting lower CUDA cores, TMU, and ROP. However, other sources have seen that the 1080 Ti still has above average performance. This is to compare with other GPUs like the GTX 980, which boasts 23 percent more CUDA cores matched with a higher clock speed than the GTX 970, but is still 15 percent faster.

As for the price, there are rumors that the GTX 1080 Ti may start with $1,000, while the Titan X will start at $1,200.
