'Orange Is the New Black' season 4: Laverne Cox shares Sophia's fate; cast gets three new recurring characters

Season three of "Orange is the New Black" was hard on a lot of the characters. Piper (Taylor Schilling) appears to be on a downward spiral, Alex (Laura Prepon) was cornered and reportedly about to be assassinated and Sophia (Laverne Cox) was thrown in solitary confinement.

While spoilers about Prepon and Schilling's characters are abound, what happens to Sophia next season is still a mystery in many ways. But Cox recently opened up on what's ahead for Sophia when "Orange Is the New Black" returns for a fourth season.

Season three saw Cox's character having a difficult time controlling her son, Michael and being attacked by the other inmates of Litchfield. Now it seems that season four won't be any better as Cox revealed that Sophia and Gloria would remain at odds throughout the season, adding that there was no way for the two to ever become friends.

"I can't imagine. As a viewer watching, seeing how much remorse Gloria has, I always like to believe there's a potential for forgiveness, but it's pretty bad," Cox said. "This is really, really bad."

Cox's viewpoint is in direct contrast to what actress, Selenis Leyva, who plays Gloria, thinks about the two's situation. The actress admitted that most of the show's cast is in the dark about how season four will unfold but she pointed out that regardless of what happened, Gloria and Sophia are fundamentally good people. Leyva also added that the current bad blood running between the two is "more about their children" and less of a personal attack against the person.

Based on how the last season ended, it would appear that there will be several new faces at Litchfield Prison when "Orange Is the New Black" returns. Information about the new characters is slowly trickling in, including three actors who have signed on for recurring roles next season. They are Brad William Henke ("Pacific Rim"), Kelly Karbacz ("Get Smart") and Mike Houston ("The Drop").  It's been reported that two of them might be playing jail guards while the third might be playing someone in Litchfield's management.

Season four of "Orange Is the New Black" is slated to return to Netflix in June 2016.
