'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 air date, updates, and spoilers: Taystee to go to war over Poussey's death; will Piper finally be released?

(Facebook/OITNB)Taystee will reportedly go to war over Poussey's death.

After the tumultuous events of season 4, fans are wondering how the women of Litchfield Prison would have changed. Will they become even more hardened or has the system broken them down?

Production for "Orange Is the New Black's" fifth season is ongoing, which is good news for fans of the series. However, the cast and crew have so far been keeping mum on where season 5 will take them.

Season 4 introduced major changes to Litchfield Prison. The drastic increase in the inmate population saw the arrival of new characters, a more tense living arrangement, and several cruel correction officers. The season ended with the inmates rioting over Poussey's (Samira Wiley) shocking death and Daya (Dascha Polanco) pointing a gun at Humphrey (Michael Torpey), the cruel and vindictive CO.

There's still no word on how the show will resolve this cliffhanger, although fans have only been too happy to discuss their theories. Some have suggested that season 5 will see Taystee (Danielle Brooks) leading a war against Litchfield's correction officers. The character instigated season 4's riot when the management covered up Poussey's death and the upcoming season might see her continue that fight. It's certainly something that Brooks hinted at in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"Taystee has nothing to lose, she's lost everything that she cared so deeply about," the actress explained. "It's time to fight. I think — I don't know! — but I think that's where we will see Taystee go."

Viewers might also see more deaths next season. Or at least, they might have to say goodbye to certain characters. One character rumored to be in danger in season 5 is Piper (Taylor Schilling). The inmate made deep enemies with the Latina population last season and it's so easy for things to get violent in the prison's tense environment. There's also the possibility that Piper might be released from prison instead. Fans are also hoping for the return of fan favorites like COs Bennett (Matt McGorry) and Healy (Michael Harney) and Lolly (Lori Petty).

"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is expected to return to Netflix in 2017.
