Orlando Magic NBA trade rumors 2016: Shabazz Napier to continue career with Blazers?

(Reuters/Steve Mitchell/USA TODAY Sports)Point guard Shabazz Napier (left) is reportedly going to be traded by the Orlando Magic to the Portland Trail Blazers for cash considerations.

The Orlando Magic are expected to ship point guard Shabazz Napier to the Portland Trail Blazers after recently reaching a deal with veteran playmaker D.J. Augustin in free agency.

According to the Orlando Sentinel's Josh Robbins, the Magic are trading Napier to the Blazers for cash considerations.

The move as ESPN reported, is perhaps Magic general manager Rob Hennigan's plan to prevent crowding at the point guard position. If the deal will not materialize, Orlando will have four players at the no. 1 spot with Napier, Augustin, Elfrid Payton, and C.J. Watson.

Napier came to the National Basketball Association (NBA) as the 24th overall pick in the 2014 draft. He started his career with the Miami Heat but after only one season (2014-15) was sent to the Magic.

During the previous season, Napier played in 55 games for Orlando and had the backup role. In those appearances, he averaged 3.7 points, one rebound, and 1.8 assists, in 10.9 minutes of action per contest.

A former collegiate star with the University of Connecticut Huskies, Napier is a great fit with the Blazers considering that they do not have a second stringer at point guard.

Now, franchise star Damian Lillard has a quality backup in Napier, who despite being new in the league already has experience.

However, nothing is assured as of the moment and with the off-season continuing, changes could still happen.

If Napier ends up in Portland, there is a chance he is not staying in the city for long. The Blazers might decide to again involve him in a trade to acquire a veteran point guard or player.

The Blazers are aiming to have a better performance in the 2016-17 season. During the previous campaign, Lillard led the team as far as the second round of the playoffs before they fell to the Golden State Warriors.
