BBC America has announced that production on the newest season of 'Orphan Black' has commenced. 'Orphan Black' co-director, John Fawcett, confirmed this yesterday by updating his Twitter account. Fawcett tweeted, "@Orphan Black #CloneClub Yep we are rolling!" He also uploaded a photo of himself, along with Tatiana Maslany and Kristian Bruun. Maslany was notably in character as the clone, Helena.

The cast and crew of 'Orphan Black' are currently in Toronto filming for the upcoming season. Filming is expected to continue until March 2016, when the show is slated to debut. The forthcoming season returns with 10 episodes.

BBC America has also released the first official synopsis for season four, which has been revealed to be heading into a "horrifying new direction."

In the upcoming season, Sarah returns home from her Icelandic hideout and sets out to track down a mysterious ally who has ties to the first clone, Beth Childs. As Sarah follows Beth's footsteps, she is pulled into a dangerous relationship with a powerful new enemy. Her ties to this enemy leads her into a horrifying new direction.

Furthermore, she is also under intense pressure to protect the sisterhood. It seems that as the pressure affects her, her old habits begin resurface. The close-knit sisters are pulled into different directions and Sarah "finds herself estranged from the loving relationships that changed her for the better."

According to Screen Rant, the previous season featured complicated storylines that veered away from the "dysfunctional family element" that initially brought the clones together. Now, it seems that the show is planning to return to its roots by bringing the focus back to the show's core characters. By featuring Beth-related story arcs, 'Orphan Black' also seeks to provide answers to questions that were left unanswered from way back in season one.

'Orphan Black' also announced that Joel Thomas Hynes has been cast as Dizzy, an edgy hacker who doesn't conform to group mentality. The show is currently casting for additional roles which will be announced in the next few weeks.

Season four of 'Orphan Black' returns to BBC America in spring 2016.
