Despite everything they did, Jamie and Claire Fraser discovered that there's no stopping history as the Battle of Culloden is about to commence. Back in her own time, a tortured Claire reveals to her daughter the truth about her father.

The previous episode saw "Outlander" carefully wrapping up some story arcs, as it prepares to end its magnificent season 2 run. Episode 12 saw Claire (Caitriona Balfe) helping Colum MacKenzie (Gary Lewis) die in peace, by slipping him a vial of yellow jasmine. And in a shocking twist, she also encountered Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall (Tobias Menzies), who has apparently been paying for his sick brother's bills. In exchange for easing his brother's pain, Black Jack agreed to wed Mary (Rosie Day), his brother's fiancee, thus ensuring that Frank's lineage remains intact.

Season 2's penultimate episode also saw Jamie (Sam Heughan) attempting to avoid the Battle of Culloden with a "Hail Mary" attack on the enemy's party but was thwarted. Now it's inevitable that the historic battle will happen.

According to reports, the finale of "Outlander" season 2 will have two stories intercutting each other. One will revolve around Claire travelling to Scotland with her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) in 1968. She visits Lallybroch and Culloden Moor in a bid to make peace with her past, while Briana and Roger (Richard Rankin) bond over their mutual love of history. But the discovery of a gravestone belonging to Jamie Fraser causes a great deal of distress to Claire, who then tells her daughter the truth about her father. While Brianna refuses to believe the story, Roger finds himself intrigued by it.

Meanwhile, back in the 18th century, Jamie and Claire come up with a dangerous plan that enrages Dougal (Graham McTavish). Now Jamie has to find a way to save the people he loves, "even if it means saying goodbye to some — or all — of them."

A clip for episode 13, "Dragonfly in Amber," shows that the Battle of Culloden is about to start, with Jamie demanding for Claire to leave. One shot shows a desperate Jamie imploring Claire to go with him. She hesitates, but eventually agrees as they leave for the stones. Claire wonders if she can come back to him and the two share a tender moment. The clip ends with Claire tearfully telling Jamie that she loves him.

The final episode of "Outlander" season 2 will be aired on Starz on July 9 at 9 p.m. The delay is understandably frustrating for fans so the network will be airing the whole season in the interim.
