'Outlander' season 2 update: Frances de la Tour joins as Mother Hildegarde

A new cast update about Starz's historical fiction "Outlander" has just been announced and fans are excited to learn that British actress Frances de la Tour is joining season two.

Known for her role as half-giantess Madame Maxine in the Harry Potter films, de la Tour will portray Mother Hildegarde in the popular historical time travel series ported off Diana Gabaldon's novels. Basing from the books, Mother Hildegarde is Paris L'Hospital des Agnes' Mother Superior.

Main character Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) will be spending some time in the said hospital, as reflected in the novel. "Dragonfly in Amber" from which season two is based.

The news was announced by Starz network via the series' official Twitter account. On June 30, they tweeted, "Frances De La Tour is intelligent and commanding, which is why she'll make a great Mother Hildegarde! #Outlander."

Tony Award-winner, de la Tour, who was also cast in "Into the Woods" and "Alice in Wonderland," will be joined in the series by her constant pooch companion, Bouton. The dog has been cast earlier in May, as announced by co-executive producer Maril Davis.

Also new in the cast are Robert Cavanah as Jared Fraser, Margaux Chatelier as Annalise de Marillac, Rosie Day as Mary Hawkins, Laurence Dobiesz as Alex Randall, Marc Duret as Joseph Duverney, Dominique Piñon as Master Raymond, Claire Sermonne as Louise de Rohan, and Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain.

"Outlander" revolves around the life of World War II nurse, Claire Beauchamp Randall, who found herself transported to 1743 Scotland when the rebellion was at an all-time high. While there, she meets and marries Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Season two will see husband and wife trying to stop the Jacobite uprisings in France. It will preview at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con and fans can watch out for the pilot episode, which will air on early 2016.
