'Outlander' season 3 spoilers, news, updates: how does war affect Jamie?

(Facebook/Outlander)Will Jamie be the same man when Claire returns to the past to see him in "Outlander" season 3?

The furious Battle of Culloden will be depicted in "Outlander" season three, and while fans are very excited to see how everything went down and how it ended, they may be saddened to see how Jamie has lived on after the war.

In a fan tweet earlier this week, a screenshot emerged of what appears to be series writer Diana Gabaldon's response to a fan probably asking about how Jamie (Sam Heughan) prepared for the war after sending Claire (Caitriona Balfe) back to the future so the couple's unborn child can have a life.

In the screenshot, Gabaldon says: "He looked freakin' scary doing it, I can tell you. There' a great scene--and I hope they don't edit it our or truncate it--right before the battle..." Could this mean that Jamie was ready to accept his death in case it comes during battle?

Recent reports suggest that Jamie already had the feeling that the Highlanders were very much expected to be trampled during the war, as Claire has already revealed. However, Jamie will most likely be willing to die as long as he goes down with a fight.

In "Outlander" season three set photos unveiled by Entertainment Weekly, Jamie is seen with the determination to emerge victorious. In one photo, he seems to be leading his people, while another sees him in a fierce sword fight against Black Jack (Tobias Menzies).

Meanwhile, fans should expect a lot of emotional scenes when the show returns next year. Claire is going back to the past after she finds out that Jamie may still be alive. While she obviously still has the same feelings for Jamie, will the latter also harbor the same love for a person whom he has not seen for 20 years?

War changes people and in Jamie's case, it's almost already given that he will have new beliefs, new morals, new standards and a new life beyond Claire and their now grown-up child. It is said that Claire will leave Brianna behind so she can find out the truth about Jamie after the Battle of Culloden in "Outlander" season three.

But how will Claire's return play into Jamie's life after the battle? Jamie will now have a whole new point of view in life, especially with the arrival of Lord John Grey (David Berry), who, according to the books, will play an important role in Jamie's endeavors after the war.

How will Jamie move forward after the memories of bloodshed and fallen comrades? Will Claire's return be a good thing or it will it further drive Jamie into the pit? Find out when "Outlander" season three premieres sometime 2017 on Starz.
