Panasonic Toughpad FZ-Y1 news: Panasonic unveils Performance model of its 4K rugged tablet

Panasonic has just unveiled the Toughpad 4K FZ-Y1 Performance model. The new tablet is an updated version of the standard model released last July. The upgraded tablet feature a more capable processor, better graphics and higher storage capacity.

The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-Y1 provides users with an extraordinary viewing experience while on a mobile device. The tablet features a 20-inch 4K IPS LCD display with a 3840 x 2560 screen resolution, 230ppi pixel density and 15:10 aspect ratio.

The rugged tablet features a sleek silver bezel housed in a magnesium frame with a reinforced glass fiber case for protection. The lightweight device is 12.55 mm thick and weighs 5.31 pounds. It also comes with an optional desktop cradle to make the transition from tablet to desktop PC.

Panasonic has also given the tablet more power thanks to a fifth generation Intel Core i7-5600 vPro processor, a dedicated AMD FirePro M5100 graphics card and 16 GB of RAM. It also comes with 256 GB of Solid-State Drive for storage. Storage can be upgraded to 512 GB of SSD.

The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-Y1 is also described as a "business rugged professional device." The Windows 10 Pro device is perfectly suited for engineers, architects and designers. Going by its name, the tablet is designed for extreme durability. It can withstand drops of up to 30 inches in height. The tablet also works under extreme temperatures from -20°F to 140°F.

The business tablet is also ready-made for CAD and ideal for working with A3 designs and plans.

Panasonic also has an optional Electronic Touch Pen that provides accurate detail and recognizes varied levels of pressure.

It comes with an HDMI 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, an Ethernet port, an SDXC card slot, a MiniDisplay port and a headphone jack. There is also Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Panasonic Toughpad 4K FZ-Y1 will be released to the U.K. this December for 3,180 GBP (about $4,800). Panasonic has yet to announce U.S. availability.
