Philadelphia 76ers trade rumors 2016: Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot to Timberwolves for Tyus Jones?

The Philadelphia 76ers were reportedly among the teams interested in Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Tyus Jones. In order to acquire him without making a huge sacrifice, they might consider letting go of rookie Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot.

Luwawu-Cabarrot was selected by the 76ers in the first-round (24th overall) of the 2016 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft. He is from France and has been playing professionally since 2012.

It is unknown why the Timberwolves would agree to this. Luwawu-Cabarrot is a newbie and is yet to be proven in the league. However, they might give the green light since with Jones on the roster, they are crowded at the no. 1 position which could lead to more problems in the long run. Along with this, the playmaker failed to have an impressive rookie year in the 2015-16 season. In their past campaign, he saw action in just 37 games. During those appearances, he just averaged 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, with 2.9 assists.

The reason why the 76ers were linked to Jones is because they need a point guard, especially now that the veteran Jerryd Bayless might miss a month due to a wrist injury.

Jones can replace Bayless and share the ball handling duties with T.J. McConnell, Sergio Rodríguez and even Nik Stauskas.

However, the biggest problem to this is that once Bayless comes back, the 76ers will be loaded at point guard. This is an issue they are already facing with their front line players and they surely do not want to also have it in their backcourt.

But if the exchange happens, sooner or later, the 76ers must part ways with one or two of their court facilitators to prevent troubles with player rotation.

This is a good deal and is possible, but due to the potential dilemma it brings, the 76ers will likely pass on the opportunity.
