PlayStation 4 Neo release date, specs: New 4K console arriving in a few days?

Official details about the new PlayStation 4 Neo are scarce, but it is expected to be unveiled at Sony's event on Sept. 7.

Sony has already confirmed the existence of the PlayStation (PS) 4 Neo but refused to share more information about the new console apart from it being an improved PS4. Fans and reports speculated an end-of-the-year launch date, but with the invites that the tech giant recently sent out, the new console is now being expected to be revealed at the Sept. 7 event, Mirror reported.

Although they did not specifically state what the event will be all about, they did say that they will "share details about the PlayStation business," as per The Verge.

As the PS4 Neo is being rumored to come with support for PS Virtual Reality (VR), a September reveal seems sensible considering that the PSVR is set to be released on October. It is unknown when Neo will be launched, but rumors have it that it will coincide with the VR headset's.

As for its specifications, Gaming Bolt reported that previous leaks have pegged its graphics processing unit (GPU) to be 2.3 times as powerful as the one on the PS4 and its central processing unit (CPU) as 1.3 times faster.

The most expected feature it will have, however, is its ability to support games in 4K resolution. Sony previously confirmed that all titles that will be released for it will be compatible with both consoles, so gamers can still play future games using the current console.

Pricing is speculated to be at $499, which is competitive considering that its rival Microsoft Project Scorpio is rumored to be priced at $599.

More details about the PS4 Neo are expected on Sept. 7 at the PlayStation theater in Times Square, New York City. The PS4 Slim is rumored to make an appearance alongside the Neo as well.
