As fans continue to wonder when "Pokémon Z" will be released, recent rumors suggest that the game may have been completely replaced by the newly announced games in the franchise: "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon."

Before the franchise marked its 20th anniversary late February of this year, it announced the arrival of two games that are set to arrive during 2016's holiday season. According to The Verge, Pokémon "Sun" and "Moon" will roll out to the Nintendo 3DS.

The two new titles will be released at the same time not only in one area but across the globe and will be available in certain languages for those who aren't familiar with simplified Chinese. The games are the biggest releases ever since Pokémon Y was released back in 2013. While there is excitement for the recent updates, some fans who have been anticipating the launch of "Pokémon Z" are speculating that the two games may have been created to completely replace the said game.

When the two titles were unveiled, the CEO of the Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, didn't mention anything about "Pokémon Z." Instead, he highlighted the importance of "Sun" and "Moon" in today's gaming community, noting that through the two games, players around the world can interact through friendly competition.

Ever since the sequel to Pokémon "Y" was announced, fans have been eager to find out if the rumors regarding Zygarde, the said main character of the game, are true. However, Ishihara has not said anything over the past months and fans are getting tired of waiting for more information, especially with "Pokémon GO" nearing its launch.

On the other hand, there is no confirmation on the side of the company so fans are encouraged to take the rumors lightly. The game may still be under development, as was initially announced last year.

"Pokémon Z" might not release this year, but some speculate that it will be out sometime in 2017.
