A 5.9-inch Nexus 6 phone-tablet hybrid is currently under development as Google collaborates with Motorola for a project codenamed 'Shamu.'

Earlier this year, Google signed a $2.91 billion deal to sell Motorola to Lenovo, as the Android makers believe that "Motorola will be better served by Lenovo" in the rapidly growing mega industry of mobility.

Rumor mills are now claiming that the Nexus team is currently working on a "Shamu" project that will carry unique Motorola features such as active display and passive voice recognition.

The Information also notes that Motorola is planning to create something big for their comeback now carrying Lenovo's flag and that it will be pursuing the device once they are completely under Lenovo's turf.

Android L will be released this coming fall, but Google has not publicly revealed which device will carry the big OS update, but buzzes around the internet are already pointing to the Google Nexus 6.

To make the waiting game more exciting, Motorola held off the launch of its Moto 360 smartwatch during the last Google I/O developers conference, where they just gave out gift certificates, while LG and Samsung smartwatches made actual appearances.

There is a big possibility that Moto 360 and Google Nexus 6 will be released together in just a matter of months.

Initial reports cited that LG would collaborate with Google for the Nexus 6, but it looks like the tech giant is tapping a more familiar face to breathe life to their next phablet project – namely Motorola.

Google was adamant in saying that they want to devote their energy and resources to drive innovation across the Android ecosystem.

Tapping Motorola for the Google Nexus 6 phablet makes more sense for them, to be able to have more control over the development having once been the owner of the smartphone maker, and the holder of vast majority of Motorola patents.
