'Red Dead Redemption' 2 release date rumors: Rockstar Games has new projects in the - could be sequel

(Rockstar Games)"Red Dead Redemption" by Rockstar Games is being hyped for a sequel.

Rockstar Games, the video game company behind famous gaming titles like "Grand Theft Auto," "Max Payne," and "Midnight Club," reveals that it is working on new projects that it could possibly share during the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 14–16.

The revelation was noted in a financial report by parent company Take-Two Interactive. While there is still no clue as to what exactly these upcoming projects are, a lot of fans are hoping that it would be a sequel to the famous "Red Dead Redemption" franchise.

Rumors of a sequel to "Red Dead" started since leaks such as maps, Backward Compatibility issues and other hints, circulated online. The very reason why, when the statement on new projects was announced, "Red Dead" came first in the list of what those projects could be.

Another reason why fans are expecting a sequel to the open world, action-adventure game is the statement of Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick saying that "Red Dead Redemption" is the game he considers a "permanent franchise" and that in this year's E3, the video gaming publisher will be participating in full force.

However, psyched as fans are, there are also clues in the press release by Rockstar Games that reveal that the new projects might not be available this year.

One of these clues pertains to the list of upcoming games that the publisher has already laid out for this year, which only includes the game titles "NBA 2K17," "Mafia III," "Sid Meier's Civilization VI," and "WWE 2K17." Clearly "Red Dead" is not on the list yet so even when speculations are correct that it is one of the "new projects" by Rockstar Games, fans cannot expect it this year.

In a report by GameSpot, Lainie Goldstein, the CFO of Take-Two Interactive, said that this year, it is expecting a 75/25 revenue split with 2K and Rockstar, which only supports the idea that the lineup for this year's games has already been set.
