'Reign' season 4 release date, spoilers: Premiere to move to 2017; 'EastEnders' star Adam Croasdell joins cast

(Reign / Facebook)"Reign" season 4 will most likely premiere in 2017.

Fans of The CW's historical drama "Reign" are looking forward to watch the show's upcoming fourth season on the small screens. However, they may have to wait a little longer as the network removes the title off the fall lineup.

According to reports, the fourth installment of the series will most likely be released early in 2017. This could be the network's move so it won't be competing with other popular series like "The 100" and "The Originals." This is because last season, the series dipped in the ratings compared to its first two seasons.

With another The CW hit, "iZombie," premiering this fall, they may want to keep the historical drama taken out of the competition. It is even possible that the show will return to the small screen in May 2017 to avoid the "Game of Thrones" phenomenon.

Meanwhile, "EastEnders" actor Adam Croasdell has just been recently announced to join the cast next season. So far, he is set to appear in three episodes and has given the choice to be a series regular. According to Deadline, the actor will be playing as Queen Mary's (Adelaide Kane) third husband, Bothwell.

Compared to the past spouses of the Queen of Scots, Bothwell is described as a bad-boy but is really loyal and deeply in love with her.

In the previous report by TV Line, it was revealed that the show will add the character of Lord Darnley (Will Kemp) next season. He has an ambitious mother whose eyes are fixed on getting the crown. Aside from Mary, Princess Claude (Rose Williams) will have a new love interest next season and he's Narcisse's son, Gabriel. Even though he plans to wed her, Claude's heart is reserved for somebody else.

There is still no official word from the series as to what direction the show is headed to. However, if the historical accounts are considered, Queen Mary's second husband was Lord Danley.

More details about "Reign" season 4 will be revealed soon.
