'Reign' season 4 air date, spoilers: Premiere delayed to avoid 'Game of Thrones'?

The CW's historical drama series, "Reign" is allegedly pushing back its premiere date to avoid the gigantean HBO series, "Game of Thrones."

Despite being rumored to be cancelled due to bad ratings, "Reign" has been renewed for a fourth season, to the delight of its followers.

Filming for the drama series has begun since early last month, and although this should be taken as a good sign, some say that fans have yet to be rescued from limbo because of the network's decision to push its premiere a little further down to avoid sharing viewership with the hit TV series, "Game of Thrones."

Breathecast noted that some fans believe "Reign" season 4 will not premiere until May next year, long after "Game of Thrones" season 7 has premiered.

Aside from that, the delay for "Reign" season 4 premiere is also due to the network's priority to shows that have higher ratings such as "The 100," "The Originals" and "iZombie."

However, just this week, "Game of Thrones" producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirmed that the show's seventh season would not be released until summer of next year, a few months later than usual (the show typically premieres in April).

If the rumors are true that "Reign" is avoiding being swallowed whole by "Game of Thrones" in ratings, then reports of a May premiere for The CW drama would not likely happen.

It has yet to be revealed whether or not "Reign" season 4 would pick up where it left off in its season 3 finale episode, "Spiders in A Jar."

The season 3 finale left Queen Mary (Adelaide Kane) grieving over Francis (Toby Regbo), which was also a good thing because it motivated her to bring peace and prosperity in Scotland. It also featured Lady Lola (Anna Popplewell) plotting with Mary to assassinate Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) and Lola getting caught and beheaded. King Charles (Spencer Macpherson) also returned and had successfully been declared old enough to be King, relieving Queen Catherine (Megan Follows) of the throne.

"Reign" season 4 is set to premiere sometime in 2017.
