'Reign' season 4 premiere spoilers: next installment could be the series' last?

(Facebook/Reign)Will "Reign" season 4 be the last for The CW series?

The CW's historical romance drama "Reign" returns for a fourth season next year. It took quite some time for the network to drop the news, but there are already speculations that the upcoming season is going to be the series' last.

According to reports, "Reign" is at its most critical state after the significant decrease of its ratings last season. After the third season wrapped up, there were rumors circulating that the network may no longer pick up the series for another season. Fortunately, The CW did but it's not included in this year's fall lineup. However, there are new speculations that season 4 has fewer episode order than the previous seasons.

The reason behind its delay, according to rumors, is to move away from the release of "Game of Thrones" season 7. Apparently, the network does not want for "Reign" season 4 to premiere along with "Game of Thrones" next summer.

In other news, Deadline reported that "EastEnders" actor Adam Croasdell joins the cast in the upcoming season 4 of "Reign" to play as Bothwell, Queen Mary's third husband. The character, which is initially slated to appear in three episodes, is described as a bad boy yet deeply loyal and in love with Mary.

According to reports, actor Will Kemp is also booked to play as Lord Darnley in season 4. His character is based on the English nobleman who wed Mary. Darnley is the Queen of Scots' first cousin and will instantly fall in love with him. Apparently, Darnley's charm would eventually fizzle out and his real arrogant side will then show up, which could cause his death.

If the show follows history, then Mary would then bear her ad Darnley's child. However, since the nobleman died a year after getting married, his child will know nothing about him.

More details about "Reign" season 4 will soon come out.
