Earlier this week, Renault introduced their newest model, the Mégane 2016. The Paris-based automaker released official photos and a teaser video of the new vehicle, ahead of its official debut.

Renault celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original, Renault Mégane, which was released in 1995. The Mégane 2016 model follows the Mégane 3, released back in 2008.

The fourth-generation Renault Mégane hatchback is set to debut during the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Auto Show, to be held this coming Sept. 17 to 27.

According to the car's exterior designer, Franck Le Gall, the new Mégane stands out at first glance due to a "distinctive, dynamic meticulous design." Lead designer, Laurens Van Den Acker, also revealed that the Mégane hopes to compete with rivals like the Volkswagen Golf and the Peugeot 308.

The Mégane 2016 carries Renault's classic silhouette with its broad and sculpted features. It inherits its front face from the Renault Talisman, while the oversized front badge and rear share similarities with Renault's other models, the Clio, Captur and Kadjar.

The vehicle also has a distinctive lighting signature at the front, with sharp C-shaped LED headlights that continue on to the bumper. Similarly, at the rear, the new lighting signature is visible at any time of the day.

The Mégane 2016 model is slightly lower and wider compared to the 2008 third-generation Mégane. The wheelbase is also longer with a shorter overhang. The Mégane also appears sportier and will provide more space for the passengers.

Aside from the standard five-door hatchback, Renault will also launch a Renault Sport GT version that features a redesigned front bumper that highlights its sportier personality. The sports version will come in either "Iron Blue" or "Dark Metal," and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Aside from the car's exterior, Renault has yet to reveal details regarding the interior and engine specs of the Mégane. According to Top Gear, based on the interiors of the Renault Espace 2.0 and Renault Talisman, the Mégane will also likely get a high-tech dashboard including a large smartphone-style screen. Initial leaks also describe the dashboard as having a modern look.

The Renault Mégane is set to go on sale by the end of the year. Expect more details to be revealed once the Frankfurt Auto Show commences next week.
