While no word on a Resident Evil 7 release date yet, the series will return to its roots in a survival horror Resident Evil Remake of the 2002 original game in early 2015.

"The hugely popular Resident Evil® series, having sold over 61 million units to date, returns to its roots with a remastered version of the critically acclaimed masterpiece, Resident Evil," the official press release said.

The press release continued, "Originally released in 1996, Resident Evil was then 'remade' in 2002 from the ground up with new visuals, gameplay elements, environments and story details while retaining the survival horror atmosphere the series had become synonymous for."

Capcom has also confirmed that visual enhancements will be made, and will include 1080p support on next-gen consoles.

These upgrades in resolution and texture will bring more life to the characters and background of the game.

Developers have tried resolving issues of the "less frightening zombies" in Resident Evil 4 via a refurbished sixth installment.

However, Resident Evil 6 was just a showcase of several monsters and different settings that adversely affected the quality of gaming experience.

The creators deciding to reboot the classic game first released more than a decade ago was seen as a sound idea by industry pundits and gaming enthusiasts alike.

According to VG 24/7, "Resident Evil 6 is widely perceived as a dud or flop, in spite of its reasonable sales and cabal of happy fans, and that's not good for anyone."

Capcom has to ensure that they will walk the talk to obliterate its sinking Resident Evil reputation.

The game development company has assured the gaming communities around the world that they will heavily invest on significantly improving audio and visual effects of the game.

The Resident Evil Remake is scheduled to release for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC.
