(Facebook/RickandMorty)"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to premiere in December 2016.

Adult Swim's animated science fiction series "Rick and Morty" has been anticipated to return for a third season 3 this year. Although there is still no specific premiere date, it is expected to air sometime this December.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 was previously slated to release in early 2017. However, early this year, creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon revealed that it will be coming out sooner than expected and definitely sometime this year.

According to new reports, the third season of the sci-fi animated series is expected to air in December. Also, series writers Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbiener revealed in an interview with Chicks Who Script that the scripts were already good to go last September. At the time of the interview, they said that they are just waiting for the production screening.

Carbiener also explained the writing process. She said, "You learn so much on that show, because they fit 20 pounds of story in a five pound bag. On other shows what would be an entire episode will be the first two or three minutes. So you have to learn how to come up with a lot of story, fast, and how to make it all turn and tie up right."

As for the plot of the upcoming season, it is speculated that Rick is still hiding in space after escaping the Federal Galactic Prison. The Federal Government continues to search for him and could be preparing to sue him. Season 3 may explain how he was able to escape and who helped him. It could be Morty, Summer, or his wife. Also, his escape could have been done through an insect body since the security cameras failed to record him escaping.

Also, season 3 is expected to further explain Beth and Jerry's divorce and will see Beth find a new romantic interest.

Adult Swim may finally announce the exact premiere date for "Rick and Morty" season 3 soon.
