'Rick and Morty' season 3 spoilers, release date: Fans will see more of Rick's family next season

(Twitter/@RickandMorty)Fans will be seeing more of Rick's family in season 3.

It might take another six months or so before "Rick and Morty" season 3 returns to Adult Swim. The wait is undeniably tedious for fans, but spoilers and an improvised skit might just be enough to tide them over.

Waiting for your favorite series to finish production and return on air is a grueling process, especially now when quality is the name of the game. The same holds true for animated shows like "Rick and Morty."

Show creator Dan Harmon had previously revealed how production for season 3 has been more challenging, not just because they're doing more episodes but also because the creative team wanted to ensure that they'll only release the best.

Fans were given a glimpse as to how episodes are brought to life in a short clip dubbed "Summer's Future." The video shows Harmon, co-creator Justin Roiland, Spencer Grammer, and Ryan Ridley casually sitting outside. Harmon starts describing a situation, which is Rick conducting an experiment in his garage when Summer arrives asking for advice. As it turns out, Rick is experimenting on Morty, much to Summer's chagrin, but the dubious experiment actually gets her a full scholarship to Harvard.

The clip might just be a bunch of people sitting around, but it's amazing to see how quickly Roiland moves from bringing Rick then Morty to life. Grammer is equally adept at improvising Summer's dialogue and injecting her own ideas in the skit. The video might seem weird to fans, but this "retroscripting," where actors are given a basic idea and they improvise the dialogue before the animators work on the characters, is the secret to the show's success.

It's currently unknown whether this little skit will find its way to season 3, but what's confirmed is that fans will be seeing more of Rick's family next season. Summer will reportedly help Morty spring their grandfather out of the Galactic Federal Prison. Meanwhile, Rick's daughter, Beth, might have a bigger and better story arc next season as well.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to return to Adult Swim sometime in 2017.
