'Riverdale': Legendary Archie Comics drama tv series to launch airing on Fox

With comic book adaptations swarming both the big and small screen, it is no surprise that Archie and his gang will soon hit television with an anticipated adaptation in an Archie Comics TV series dubbed 'Riverdale.'

According to a report by Deadline, Greg Berlanti will oversee the production of the new Archie Comics TV series, together with Warner Bros.

Berlanti's pairing with Warner Bros. has been responsible for comic-to-small screen hits such as 'Arrow,' 'The Flash,' and CBS's 'Supergirl.'

An official description of Archie Comic's Riverdale TV series has been released and it says that the modern day setting wishes to appeal to a market of high school and college students.

With the immense popularity of the comic that applies to many generations, however, it wouldn't be a surprise if Riverdale reaches far more than its intended demographic.

"Set in the present, the series offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the surreality of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome façade," reads the description, according to Screenrant.

Riverdale will feature the immortal love triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica, as well as feature prominent roles for Archie's burger-loving best friend, Jughead.

Archie's rival, Reggie Mantle, will obviously also appear in the TV serie adaptation, as well as lots of screen time for Kevin Keller, the comic's famous gay character.

Appearances from Josie and the Pussycats are also expected, as well as familiar story lines taken from the famous Archie comic strips in volumes.

The script will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics.
