Samsung provided a brief glance at its upcoming Gear S2 smartwatch when it unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus earlier this month. Since then, the device has popped up in fashion photos released by the company. Now, as August draws to a close, the company has been dropping hints that the device is already being tested in public.

The news of the test drive arrived via an image posted on the Instagram account belonging to Dennis Miloseski, who is the Vice President at Samsung Design America. The caption said that he was "Giving the new Samsung Gear S2 a test drive."

Given that this is the first time the device has been seen in the flesh, it was soon picked up by the Internet and by a number of news outlets. Though it was only the design of the upcoming Gear S2 smartwatch which was evident in the image, it was enough to capture attention and The Verge described it as "surprisingly good looking."

As for the features of the watch, they will only be revealed at the upcoming IFA tradeshow in Berlin, where Samsung is due to have a press conference on Sept. 3. Several details about the upcoming smartwatch have already been made public including a round watch face and body made of steel.

The Gear S2, which was for some time known by its code name, Orbis, also has a rotating bezel which will allow users to zoom into objects on the screen and possibly even navigate between apps. While many have pointed out that the Apple Watch already has the same feature, the smartwatch will be different in other ways. It will also come with a Tizen operating system.

The new smartwatch is expected to come in two sizes and going by the image released in Miloseski's Instagram account, the device looks much smaller and slimmer compared to other offerings like the Moto 360.
