Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 rumors roundup: Release date, specs and new FCC filing

There has been a scarcity of information regarding the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 release date and specs, but recent FCC filing documents reveal elements that can bring the product closer to reality.

The certification highlights elements such as: dimensions and connectivity bands.

The presumed Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is expected to sport a 5.9-inch screen display and be LTE-capable.

Previous leaks also mentioned that the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with Adreno 360 GPU and speeds up to 1.2GHz.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is also predicted to sport 1280 x 720 screen resolution, 12MP rear-facing camera, 4.7MP front-facing camera, LED flash, 8GB internal memory, 2GB RAM and up to 64GB expandable memory.

It is also uncertain whether this model will get a release date in the United States, or only be available in Asia, but in case it reaches US soil, there is a strong possibility that it will be exclusive to AT&T.

The original Galaxy Mega sold for $499 and its successor might not depart too much from this wallet-friendly figure, given that Apple is predicted to release iPhone 6 which is certain to carry an expensive price tag.

Rumors suggest that Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will be unveiled before the third quarter of 2014 ends.

This happens amid a "time of crisis" for the South Korean tech titan.

Samsung is facing serious woes on company profits with a three-consecutive quarter decline that was mainly brought by weak sales performance of mid-range phones and chaos within leadership succession.

Its foray into wearable device with the launch of Samsung Gear is still at an early stage and will face tough competition as Apple is set to unwrap its iWatch lineup before the year ends.

If there is one thing that can pull Samsung out of further troubles – it would be a real deal innovation that consumers have not seen for quite awhile from the largest smartphone maker in the world.
