Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Built-in sensors measuring UV rays

Samsung's forthcoming phablet will feature an ultraviolet sensor alongside the heart rate monitor, according to reports.

Sammobile reported that they have come across exclusive information about the specifications of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 including an AMOLED QHD screen and two versions to be released in different markets.

But perhaps the most striking of all information in the alleged leak is the UV sensor, a never-before-seen feature on any smartphone.

The ultraviolet sensor, which will be integrated with the S Health app, will have the capacity to gauge UV rays or radiation every 500 milliseconds.

After gauging the amount of radiation, the app will make a recommendation according to the UV Index Scale standards.

UV Index Scale consists of international guidelines aligned with the established benchmarks of the World Health Organization (WHO).

It is not too difficult to believe this report especially that Samsung Galaxy S5 pioneered the heart rate monitoring technology when it was launched earlier this year.

Reuters reported that the tech titans are shifting their innovation focus towards health and fitness apps – Apple, Google and Samsung will all be incorporating health apps as they compete for in the new battleground of wearables.

Aside from the UV sensor, Ecumenical News also recently mentioned that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will feature an iris scanning technology.

In another Reuters interview last April, Yoon Han-kil revealed that they are indeed planning to launch a Galaxy Note with a "new form factor" by second half of 2014.

"Our ultimate goal is to make products that consumers really aspire to have. This is how we are trying to find a breakthrough in the stagnant premium market," Yoon said.

Samsung is expected to unveil Galaxy Note 4 during a pre-IFA event in Berlin on September 3, 2014, with a release date following shortly thereafter.
