Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge pre-orders overshoot forecasts, says top executive

Samsung's latest flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, could very well revive the disappointing performance of the company.

This was after senior company executive Koh Dong-jin revealed via Reuters that the preorders for both flagships have been more than expected.

Even though no official figures have been revealed, the Samsung executive did add that sales for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will improve in the China region. China has been identified as the region where Samsung has been performing poorly, so it will be interesting to see if his claims hold true.

Both devices were scheduled to kick off sales last March 11, but the official numbers have yet to be known. Worth noting, though, is that while Koh claims overwhelming pre-order demand, media reports have it that the device has not exactly been a hit right on its own turf— South Korea.

Per Business Korea, it seems that some local subscribers have shown some apprehension on placing pre-orders, preferring to wait and see once the device is officially launched. This is despite the fact that Samsung has sweetened the pot by offering a free Samsung Gear VR to entice pre-orders.

There is a chance that Koh's claims may not cover the global niche. China, being the country where Samsung has been performing the poorest, could have been singled out as a positive development.

Hence, other regions where the device has either performed well or so-so may not necessarily render similar or better sales figures. For now, that is up in the air.

Among the features to look forward to include a new water-resistant design; the return of the SD card slot; and a larger battery which can hopefully hold up with HD video viewing plans folks are likely to embark on.

Being a new phone, high anticipation is only normal, but the story could differ once rival brands such as Apple release their own smartphone offerings.
