There have been hints over the past few months that Samsung's new smartwatch will have a bezel that rotates. And today, the news was made official during the Tizen Developer Summit hosted by the company in India. Several other details of the upcoming smartwatch were also revealed at the summit including the fact that it would be running on Tizen 2.3.1.

As for the release date of the Orbis smartwatch, which is otherwise known as Gear A, Samsung, unfortunately has yet to provide details but rumors are flying thick and fast that the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on Aug. 13 will see the arrival of the device.

The smartwatch lineup from Samsung has never featured a round bodied smartwatch and the Gear A is being hailed as a big shift. As for the main feature of the watch, it is the rotating bezel which will allow users to zoom into information shown on the screen, as well as interact with games. After months of rumors which claimed its existence, the rotating ring around the body of the watch, was finally confirmed at the conference held in Bangalore, India.

At the conference, Sammobile reported that it was also confirmed that the smartwatch will have a round body and a touch screen with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The operating system it will run on has also been rumored for quite some time but those rumors have been put to rest as the company has also confirmed that it will be running on the Tizen 2.3.1.

The Orbis will be able to work along with the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which many expect will be launched on Aug. 13, as well.

As for the rest of the rumors about the smartwatch, they include a full list of specs which indicate that it will come with an Exynos 3472 chipset coupled with a processor with two cores. As for RAM there is going to be 768MB on board, along with the standard 4GB of storage.
