Samsung update for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge rolls out to fix battery life issues

Less than a week after Samsung released the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in the market, a number of complaints have emerged about their poor battery life, with some users of the Galaxy S6 reportedly losing more than 50 percent battery power in just a few hours.

Samsung had earlier mocked iPhone users for being "wall huggers" due to the unreliable battery life of Apple's smartphones, but some Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users now appear to be facing the same problem. Like Apple's smartphones, Samsung has introduced a non-removable battery in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, making it difficult for users to solve the battery life problem by simply removing the battery and then putting it back.

The Quad-HD display in both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge could be putting too much pressure on the 2,600mAh battery inside the devices. Users of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge who are experiencing short battery life are trying to solve the problem by restarting their handset, using the Battery Saver mode setting, shutting down battery-draining apps and services, and factory-resetting the handset if the problem is too serious.

Samsung has now rolled out an update to its Push app, which resolves some issues with data usage and power consumption of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The update available for the company's application called "Samsung Push Service" is available at Google Play Store under the My apps menu. According to the changelog, Samsung has "applied patches to reduce data usage and power consumption", as well as added in a few bug fixes.

For user who are facing more serious battery life problems, Samsung's one-year warranty for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge covers some battery issues and also guarantees a free handset replacement if its maximum power capacity drops below 80 percent during its first year of use.
