Samsung is reportedly expanding their Galaxy alphabet line-up with the release of two new "Galaxy O" smartphones.

The Korean company has used the alphabet to brand their smartphone releases. Notably, they've used the letter, S, for their flagship phones, letter, E, for affordable versions and so on.

It was first speculated that the O series would be VR-centric and that Samsung would be collaborating with Oculus. Both companies had previously worked on releasing the Gear VR. Samsung co-CEO, JK Shin, had previously said that the third generation, Gear VR, would launch soon but did not mention which device it would be intended for. Thus, the O series could have potentially been included.

However, based on a benchmark test leak, it seems that the Galaxy O series will be intended as an entry-level or mid-range offering. The company is also still considering the final name for the series, either O or On.

The first of the two smartphones will either be called the Samsung Galaxy O7 or Mega On. Its model number is the SM-G600.

The device will feature a 5.5-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 screen resolution. It will be powered by a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.5 GB of RAM.

The smartphone will have a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. It also comes with 8 GB of internal memory with a microSD slot for expandable memory.

The device will be backed by a 3,000 mAh battery.

The phone is also reported to have dimensions of 151.8 x 77.5 x 8.2 mm and will weigh 145g.

Finally, the smartphone comes preloaded with the Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The second rumored smartphone is the Galaxy O5 or Grand On. The device carries the model name SM-G550.

The smartphone will be a bit smaller, featuring a 5-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 screen resolution. It will be powered by a quad core 1.3 GHz Exynos 3475 processor with 1 GB of RAM.

The device also features an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera.

The Galaxy O5 also has 8 GB of internal memory with a microSD slot for expandable memory. It will be backed by a 2,600 mAh battery.

The device's dimensions are 142 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm and will weigh 140 g.

The O5 will also come preloaded with the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.

It is still unknown when Samsung will launch these two new smartphones and at what price points they will be offered.

The two O-series phones carry specifications similar to the previously released Galaxy J5, J7 and E7 smartphones. Thus, it is speculated that what sets the Galaxy O series apart will be its design and build.

Oculus will have a "Connect2" developer conference on Sept. 23 and Samsung will be present during the upcoming IFA tech show. Consumers should stay tuned to see whether both companies will take the opportunity to announce further details regarding the Galaxy O-series.
