'Scandal' season 6 spoilers: Rowan shows Jake what true power is in new episodes

(Facebook/ScandalABC)Rowan's plans are going well in "Scandal" season 6.

Rowan (Joe Morton) will show Jake (Scott Foley) what happens to those who disappoint Command in the upcoming season of "Scandal."

Last installment, Olivia (Kerry Washington) seemingly got the upper hand in her battle with her father over Jake. She succeeded in getting her lover out of his grasp at the last minute. With brilliant planning, Olivia turned Jake into Mellie's (Bellamy Young) running mate for the upcoming presidential elections. She thought that she had finally ousted Rowan, but the latter's cunning smile during the finale suggested otherwise.

According to Game N Guide, Rowan's plan was to get him, Olivia and Jake to the White House at Mellie's expense. He knew what Olivia was capable of doing from the start. Egging her to take the bait and make Jake a vice presidential candidate was part of his plans all along. Rowan did not care that he was stepping on others' shoes to get what he wanted. It was all part of the game. Now, he just has to wait to see if Jake will win the elections and seal the deal.

Although Rowan stayed out of Olivia's affair with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), he knew exactly what was happening between the two. Mellie, as the scorned ex-wife, made his daughter's life hell when she went to the press and exposed the affair. In a way, this could be Rowan's way to get even with Mellie for hurting his little girl. After all, he may have his faults, but the old man sure loves Olivia.

Even if Mellie has an idea of what Rowan is planning, Young previously told Variety her character does not care as along as she wins the presidency.

"On the one hand, Mellie knows Rowan as the devil, but on the other hand, she has made a deal with the devil in the past. I would wager that being so close [to being President], she'd be able to make peace with it in her mind that if she could just get the office, then she'd have the power and it wouldn't matter how she got there. But as we all know, any dance you do with Papa Pope is rather deathly," Young shares with Variety.

"Scandal" season 6 is expected to premiere midseason 2017 on ABC.
