'Skate 4' release date: Game not mentioned during Electronic Arts' E3 2016 press conference

(Electronic Arts)"Skate 3" allows players to work in teams in order to win competitions.

Gaming enthusiasts stay tuned to developers' and publishers' conferences during the recently held Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Electronic Arts (EA) was one of the first to announce its plans on June 12, but the highly anticipated "Skate 4" game was not mentioned.

Instead, EA announced developments on other games namely "Titanfall 2," "Mass Effect: Andromeda," "Madden NFL 2017," "FIFA 17," "FE," "Star Wars: Dice," "Star Wars: Motive," "Star Wars: Visceral," "Star Wars: Respawn," and "Battlefield 1."

Although the non-inclusion of "Skate 4" was disappointing to many, it was not unexpected. EA has been asked about the status of "Skate 4" and the inquiry grew more as E3 drew near. Early last month, EA confirmed that a new game is not in development via its Twitter account.

As a response to a follower, EA said, "We love the passion our players feel for the Skate franchise. A new game is not in development, but we appreciate your feedback."

The first "Skate" game was launched in September 2007 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game sold quickly and the success led to the development of a spin-off game called "Skate It," which was released in November 2008 for Nintendo DS, Wii, and iOS.

In January 2009, "Skate 2" was released as a sequel to the first series. The latest series, "Skate 3," was released again for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May 2010. The successive releases of the four installations prompted fans of the game to wait since 2011.

The "Skate" series enables players to learn the mechanics and trick of the board games through virtual interaction. The players take control of a skater who must go through several stages of demo, in order to win contests and earn sponsors. The ultimate goal of each player is to be declared "Skater of the Year."
