Even though the Lumia flagship phones from Microsoft arrived in the form of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL at the beginning of last month, attention has been turning to next year's devices. Now, rumors have emerged that the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset which is still being worked on by Qualcomm, could find its way to next year's Lumia devices.

Reporting on the rumors, PhoneArena describes how Microsoft is already testing the Snapdragon 820 on the Lumia flagship smartphones for next year. This could mean that the chipset has been deemed stable by Qualcomm and is ready to be used on smartphones, but as of yet the company has not indicated when it will be available for mass production.

Last month, there were rumors that the Snapdragon 820 was overheating much like its predecessor the Snapdragon 810 and Samsung which is expected to manufacture it was fixing the problem. In fact the Snapdragon 810 is still besieged by overheating problems on smartphones like the Sony Xperia and earlier this year, Samsung opted not to use it on the flagship smartphone lineup which consists of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. However, soon after rumors about the rumors started last month, about the Snapdragon 820 overheating Qualcomm refuted them. It maintained that everything was proceeding smoothly when it came to the chipset, and it was meeting its cooling specifications.

With the rumors come the news that next year's Lumia models will use the Snapdragon 820 along with liquid cooling technology which keeps the temperature of the devices low. This technology according to ExtremeTech consists of a copper pipe with water that runs near the processor. Then as the heat builds up when the device is operational the water is turned into vapor to draw the heat off and it is finally cooled down and converted into water again by a fan.
