Sony Smartwatch 3 vs. Moto 360: Motorola's round smartwatch is the clear winner

The Sony Smartwatch 3 has proved that it has the looks and design to take on the very best smartwatches in the world including the Moto 360. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Smartwatch 3 has a rectangular body made of steel, which can be easily popped in and out of its band. It offers various bands that come in a variety of materials including leather and plastic, although there are also premium steel versions for those looking for a smarter and sleeker look. This smartwatch also has an IP68 rating, which means it can be submerged in up to one and a half meters of water for 30 minutes.

The Moto 360, on the other hand, has a round body made of steel. It comes in three colors, gold, black and silver and is designed to look like a traditional watch. There is also a noticeable black portion at the bottom of its display where its sensors rest. As for its bands, its default version is made of leather but there are also other options including stainless steel bands, which come in silver or gold polish. It has an IP67 rating which means it is waterproof for only up to one meter of water and can remain submerged for 30 minutes.

Display

The Moto 360 comes with a 1.56 inch display. It has a resolution of 320 x 290 pixels and a density of 205 pixels per inch. The Smartwatch 3 has a 1.6 inch display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels and a density of 283 pixels per inch.

Specs

The Smartwatch 3 comes with an ARM A7 CPU with four cores, along with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of onboard storage while the Moto 360 has an TI OMAP 3 chipset, along with 512MB RAM and 4 GB of onboard storage.

Sensors

The Moto 360 has a heart rate monitor and pedometer while the Smartwatch 3 has an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass and gyroscope.

Price

The Sony Smartwatch 3 and the Moto 360 each cost $250.
