Sony VAIO Canvas Z news: High-end innovative tablet made for creative professionals

(Sony VAIO)

With the impending release of the Apple iPad Pro and the Google Pixel C tablets, and most likely the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, it seems that the market will soon see the emergence of even more next-generation tablets. Sony, for one, has released its own next-generation tablet, the VAIO Z Canvas.

Described as "the precise and powerful tool for creative professionals on a mission," Sony's high-end tablet is marketed toward creative professionals such as photo editors, illustrators and graphic designers. The slate has innovative features that inspire the artist's creativity and seek to increase their productivity levels.

The VAIO Z Canvas is lightweight and durable. With an aluminum alloy body and a 6-side tempered glass with anti-shock features, it has a solid and study build that can withstand accidents. At the back is a freestyle kickstand that can be adjusted at every angle and able to resist pressure.

The new slate features a 12.3-inch LCD WQGA display with a 2560 x 1704 pixel screen resolution. It has an accurate color display that covers 95 percent of Adobe's RGB spectrum. The tablet's color display matches that of a standard LCD monitor used by visual artists but unlike those monitors, the tablet is portable so it can be brought along for site visits.

The tablet is powered by an Intel Core i7 Haswell processor, the same processor that can be found in high-end laptops and computers. The graphics card, the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200, is also 3.7 times more efficient than other GPUs, which means that less time is wasted waiting for applications to load.

In terms of memory, there are 8 GB and 16 GB RAM configurations and 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB configurations for internal memory.

The VAIO Canvas Z is loaded with the Windows 10 Pro operating system and is equipped with a 63 Wh high-capacity battery. The battery is long lasting so users can continue their work even outside the office without the risk of being interrupted.

The tablet comes with a wireless keyboard that can be moved around. The portable nature of the tablet allows professionals to work up close with the screen without being hampered by the presence of a keyboard.

The LCD stylus also allows professionals to draw or scribble notes on their tablet. The digitizer stylus has a unique optical resin and is optimized to recognize different pressure strokes. These features allow the user to feel like he or she is using a real pen, writing on paper.

The Sony VAIO Canvas Z tablet comes in three variants. The standard model, priced at $2,199, has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. The second model comes with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory and is priced at $2,599. Finally, the top model will be sold for $3,099 and it comes with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal memory.

The Sony VAIO Canvas Z tablet starts shipping today, Oct. 5.
