Sony Xperia Z4 release date, specs, rumors: Next smartphone could be Xperia Z3 Neo with launch date of April 20

Recent rumors that Sony would unveil the Xperia Z4 at the upcoming IFA 2015 to be held between September 4-9 have now been replaced with speculations of the company set to launch a flagship Android smartphone on April 20 that could actually be the Xperia Z3 Neo.

The Japanese tech giant has been expected to launch the Xperia Z4 in April with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage, 20.7MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, and Android 5.0 or 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. There have been a slew of leaks showing purported official press renders and live images of the Xperia Z4.

Fresh reports now claim that Sony will unveil a new Xperia smartphone in Japan, possibly the Xperia Z4, on April 20 in Japan, its home country. According to reports in the Japanese media, the company has sent local invites to the local media for an event to be held on April 20 at 12:00 p.m. Sony has not confirmed this rumor and there is no concrete evidence to suggest that the mysterious device to be released on April 20 will be the Xperia Z4, though the slew of image leaks and speculations indicate that the upcoming Android smartphone could be Xperia Z4.

But in a strange twist, another media report claims that Sony's next major smartphone release could be the Xperia Z3 Neo, instead of the Xperia Z4 as previously reported. According to the new report, all earlier image leaks related to the Xperia Z4 actually depicted the Xperia Z3 Neo, and the Xperia Z4 will arrive at a later date.

Sony has been expected to launch new Xperia handsets between May and November of this year, and if the Xperia Z3 Neo is the first smartphone to be launched, then it could pave the way for the release of the Xperia Z4 at the IFA trade show in Berlin.
