The Xperia Z4 from Sony brings minor improvements compared to last year's Xperia Z3 and recently the company rebranded it as the Xperia Z3 for international markets. Irrespective of its name, the device is going to get stiff competition from LG which recently released a revamped flagship the G4.

Design

Comparing their design, it is clear that Sony wanted to stick with its tried and tested formula and so the Xperia Z4 comes with glass on its front and back panel. As for its frame it is crafted from metal but it has a bit more shine and its corners are rounded for protection. As for the LG G4 it has a plastic body and so it does not appear premium. In addition it has a "SlimArc" curve extending from top to bottom which protects the screen in case of accidental drops. The back panel on the device has patterned polycarbonate and users can also opt to buy leather panels dyed in a variety of natural colors and switch them out.

Display

When it comes to display size, the Xperia Z4 is smaller as its IPS LCD screen measures 5.2 inches and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch. On the LG G4 is a better quality IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 538 pixels per inch.

Specs

As LG decided not to use the latest Snapdragon 810 chipset on the G4, the device is less powerful than its competitor. The G4 instead comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset along with a hexa-core CPU with two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and an Adreno 418 GPU. As for the Xperia Z4 it is faster thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, which is coupled with an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz.

Memory

Comparing the memory slots on the devices, they are similar and each can support up to 128 GB of external storage. In terms of RAM, again both are similar with 3 GB each.

Camera

The camera on the Xperia Z4 is a 20.7 megapixel version but it lacks optical image stabilization which is present on the G4 along with a 16 megapixel camera.

Price

The LG G4 costs $199 with a two year contract, while the Sony Xperia Z4 is due to launch as the Xperia Z3 in the United States and is expected to be priced at $199 with a similar contract.
