With the Xperia Z5 Compact, Sony is presumably hoping it has a good offering for those who prefer smaller sized smartphones and that it will be enough to take on premium devices like the iPhone 6s. However, the challenge for the Z5 Compact is invariably going to come from the Nexus 5X, which was recently announced by Google. This is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Xperia Z5 Compact has a full plastic body but there is a fingerprint scanner and it is present in the redesigned power button that lies on its side. Also, the device is available in four colors: yellow, pink, white, and black. Finally, it is splash proof with an IP68 rating but cannot be submerged in water.

The Nexus 5X also does not have a premium build and instead has a body molded from hard polycarbonate and its back panel is textured. It comes with a fingerprint scanner that is positioned below the camera. Coming to colors, the device has three options: white, green, and black.

Display

When it comes to display size, the Nexus 5X with its 5.2 inch screen wins and it has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 424 pixels per inch.

The Xperia Z5 Compact has a Triluminos display that enhances color and an X-Reality Engine that up scales the quality of images and videos. It IPS LCD screen, however, only measures 4.6 inches and it has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and density of 323 pixels per inch.

On the Nexus 5X, LG chose to use an older and slower Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset coupled with a hexa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz and an Adreno 418 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on the Nexus 5X and so on board storage cannot be expanded, while the Xperia Z5 Compact has a slot which can be used to add up to 200 GB. As for RAM, each of these devices has 2 GB onboard.

Price

The LG Nexus 5X costs $380 unlocked while the Xperia Z5 Compact has a $650 price tag without a contract.
