Sony Xperia Z5 vs Nexus 5X: The premium Xperia Z5 gets a tough fight

With several smartphones in the market, customers have a lot to choose from, but head and shoulders above the rest are the Xperia Z5 and the Nexus 5X. Here is how these two flagships from Sony and Google respectively fare in a face-off.

Design

In terms of design, the Xperia Z5 has an edge as it has a metal frame and glass on its front and back which has a frosted finish. Importantly, its build gives it a premium appearance and there is a fingerprint scanner incorporated into the power button that lies on the side. As for colors, there are four options available -- white, gold, black and green. In addition, the device comes with an IP68 certification and so is waterproof, but cannot be submerged in water. On the other hand, Gizmodo reports that the Nexus 5X it is made entirely of polycarbonate, but it has a solid build, curved corners and a fingerprint scanner on its rear which has a textured finish. This Google device is available in three colors -- white, grey and green.

Display

The Nexus 5X has of a 5.2-inch IPS capacitive screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 424 pixels per inch. On the other hand, the Xperia Z5 has a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 428 pixels per inch. It also has Triluminos color enhancing technology and an X-Reality Engine to upscale the quality of images and video.

Specs

The Xperia Z5 accommodates the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz together with an Adreno 430 GPU. Coming to its competitor, the Nexus 5X has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, coupled with a hexa-core CPU comprised of four cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and two cores clocked at 1.82 GHz and an Adreno 418 GPU.

Memory

There is no microSD slot on the Nexus 5X, while its competitor is way ahead as it has a version that allows for the addition of up to 200 GB. Comparing their RAM, the Nexus 5X lags with 2 GB, while the Xperia Z5 has 3 GB.

Camera

The Nexus 5X sports a 12-megapixel camera, while the Xperia Z5 comes with a much superior 23-megapixel shooter. However, both devices can be used to record 4K videos.

Price

The Sony Xperia Z5 is the costlier device and it could be priced at $830 without a contract, while the Nexus 5X only costs $380 unlocked.
