There are several budget smartphones in the market with high end specs and two of them are the Asus ZenFone 2 and OnePlus 2, both of which have models with 4 GB of RAM. As a result, these two devices are quickly turning into fierce competitors.

Design

When it comes to design, the OnePlus 2 has an edge as it actually has a metal frame. Its back panel is made of plastic, though it has a premium sandstone coating which gives it a good look and feel. There are other panels crafted from rosewood, bamboo, black apricot and Kevlar which are affordably priced and can be swapped out easily. The device also has a fingerprint sensor, a feature which its competitor does not have.

The ZenFone 2 has a plastic build but it is quite sturdy and has a metallic sheen which gives it a premium appearance. As for colors, it has five options: black, gold, gray, red and white.

Display

The displays on these devices are of similar size and each has a 5.5-inch screen. However, the OnePlus 2 has an LTPS LCD screen while the ZenFone 2 has an IPS version. Both have a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch.

Specs

The hardware in the ZenFone 2 is able to keep up with the OnePlus 2 making the two devices equally matched. In the OnePlus 2 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A57 cores and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the ZenFone 2, it has two models, one with 2 GB of RAM and another with 4 GB. The 4 GB version has an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset, a CPU with four cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU.

Memory

There is no possibility of adding external storage on the OnePlus 2 as it does not have a memory slot while the ZenFone 2 can support up to 64 GB storage. As for RAM, the ZenFone 2 either has 2 GB or 4 GB while the 16 GB OnePlus 2 has 3 GB and its 32 GB model has 4 GB.

Camera

There are similar 13 megapixel cameras on each device, but only the OnePlus 2 has optical image stabilization.

Price

The OnePlus 2 is priced at $329, unlocked, while the unlocked Asus ZenFone 2 costs $300.
