'Star Wars: Episode 8' news, release date: First trailer to arrive soon; Episode 9 to start filming in April?

(Facebook/starwarsmovies)"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.

With "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" already out, the focus has now shifted to the next "Star Wars" film coming out: Episode 8. But since the film isn't due for a release until December 2017, fans have got a lot of waiting to do. Thankfully, a trailer for the upcoming film is set to bow sometime soon.

Fans have been waiting for a "Star Wars: Episode 8" trailer for quite some time now. Many expected it to bow with "Rogue One," but that sadly did not transpire. However, according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, fans can look forward to the first trailer by spring.

"Well, pretty soon," Kennedy told BBC News reporter Lizo Mzimba, who asked her when the trailer will be out. "We're giving ["Rogue One"] a little bit of breathing room, and then probably heading into spring, you'll start to see things."

A trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been greatly talked about for the past few weeks, and even Kylo Ren actor Adam Driver commented on what a good idea it would be to not put one out.

But another widely discussed element of the film is its subtitle, which has yet to be revealed. However, a recent trademark filing by Lucasfilm may have pulled the lid on the little secret. If reports are to be believed, then Episode 8 may be subtitled "Forces of Destiny." The trademark filed includes major motion films, in addition to merchandise like clothing, toys, and office supplies.

As for Episode 9, it has been said that the third film in the new trilogy is going to be the biggest of them all. Production is speculated to begin in April 2017, but that has yet to be confirmed. Production for Episode 8 already concluded earlier this year.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" will premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
