A Nintendo Direct broadcast in April unveiled the 3DS version of Smash Run, the Super Smash Bros' distinct multiplayer mode. Instead of the Adventure Mode classic, Smash Run will be featured as a sequel or a replacement. Director Masahiro Sakurai said Smash Run has four players with one another within the random foes-filled dungeon. The aim is to collect power-ups as fast as possible before running out of time. When five minutes is up, gamers will face against each other with their respective acquired stats.

There was no mention of how many stages Smash Run will have, though the map presented during the broadcast was quite complex and huge. Smash Run is only for Nintendo. Sakurai did not mention when the Wii U game version will come out.

The actual release date is not disclosed yet but the 3DS version is anticipated this summer, and the Wii U version expected this winter.
