In just a couple more sleeps, Microsoft is finally holding its highly anticipated event on Oct. 26. While it's true that there are those who expect that the company may launch its latest mobile device, the alleged Surface Phone, in the said event, there are now rumors saying that it's unlikely to be the case.

According to the latest rumors, it is unlikely for Microsoft to unveil the Surface Phone on Oct. 26, as, to begin with, there may be no Surface Phone in the pipeline after all. Reportedly, if ever Microsoft is to launch a new mobile device that will replace its Lumia Windows phones, it is likely to happen late 2017 or early 2018.

Microsoft has kept mum on the existence of the Surface Phone, which led some people into suspecting that the highly talked about device may just be a rumor after all. However, some weeks back, Microsoft's director for engineering, Laura Janet Butler, tweeted an intriguing post saying "Surface Phone not NOT confirmed." As the tweet came with double negative, and double negative in grammar and math rules means affirmative, many people still believe that the Surface Phone is in the pipeline.

Apart from the tweet of Butler, another thing that bolsters the belief of some observers on the existence of the Surface Phone was the report claiming that Microsoft has applied for a patent on its fingerprint scanner for a mobile device, which is suspected to be the Surface Phone. While it's true that the fingerprint scanner technology was popularized by Apple for its iPhone 5s, the one on the Surface Phone will, allegedly, be different as the sensor will be located on the screen of the device itself.

Meanwhile, it is said that the upcoming Microsoft event on Oct. 26 will cast the spotlight on the company's first-ever all-in-one (AIO) computer, which is believed to rival Apple's iMac.

Will the Surface Phone share the spotlight with the said AIO computer?

Microsoft fans can only wait and see.
