'Terminator: Genisys' News: Arnold Schwarzenegger plays aging T-8000; Who is the villain?

(IMDb)

Buckle up, people. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in the fifth installment of the Terminator series, entitled, "Terminator: Genisys" and the movie will be released on July 1, 2015. If we base on history, a Terminator movie that stars Schwarzenegger has always been a massive hit. Believed to be among the greatest science-fiction franchises ever, Terminator has released four movies in the past, the first three starring Schwarzenegger ("The Terminator" in 1984, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" in 1991 and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" in 2003) did very well at the box office, while the last one, "Terminator: Salvation" in 2009 was considered a disappointment.

Schwarzenegger was not able to star in that last movie because he was busy with his duties as Governor of California, but a facial likeness of his was utilized via CGI made from a mold of his face back in 1984 and applied to Roland Kikinger's body. Together, the 4 Terminator movies have grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

Judging by the trailer and the reports gathered about the new movie, the story is somehow set in the same "time" as the original "Terminator" movie, but in an alternate timeline. It starts of in the year 2029 and the war with Skynet is erupting. Soldier Kyle Reese is sent back in time by Resistance Leader John Connor to protect his mother, Sarah Connor, from being killed by a Terminator, as was the original plot of the first movie. As we all know, Kyle will also become the father of John. However, Sarah apparently already has a protector, an aging T-8000, which would explain how Schwarzenegger, at 66 is still able to play the robot. It has been explained that even if he is still a robot, his human skin has aged.

Emilia Clarke of "Game of Thrones" stars as Sarah Connor, with Jai Courtney ("A Good Day to Die Hard") playing Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke ("Zero Dark Thirty" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") playing John Connor.

The rest of the cast includes J.K. Simmons, who plays a "weary, alcoholic detective" on Sarah Connor's trail. G.I Joe Retaliation's Byung Hun Lee also stars as the T-1000 machine sent back from the future. Doctor Who's Matt Smith also stars as Tim, seemingly a resistance soldier, working with John Connor and Kyle Reese—as to whether the Eleventh Doctor has a bigger role remains to be seen. An interesting additional character is Danny Dyson, who is the son of Miles Dyson, who unknowingly starts the robot apocalypse. He will be played by Dayo Okeniyi ("Hunger Games").

The movie is directed by Alan Taylor ("Thor: The Dark World").

The second trailer released raised a lot of eyebrows as it shows that John Connor might not be the savior that he was in the original movies, but a villain. Is this just a ploy by the studio to misdirect? Who will the ultimate villain  be in "Terminator: Genisys"? Although there is really a high likelihood that John Connor has been manipulated somewhat in the future and has been used to sabotage his very own past, there are camps that are still banking on Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, on playing the villain, as his character has been shrouded in mystery and for him to play just an ordinary resistance soldier seems a waste.
