Fans have sorely missed Peter Parker and his web-slinging antics following the tepid response of "The Amazing Spiderman 2" at the box office. After the Sony cyber hack attacks, the fate of Spiderman has been questionable, with rumors peppering the Internet.

The latest news on the "The Amazing Spiderman 3" movie is that it will be off the table with Sony and Marvel agreeing to a reboot of the superhero, reports MoviePilot. After Amy Pascal stepped down as Sony Pictures chairman, Spiderman's path seemed even more unknown. However, techworm reports that a new deal between the two giant companies indicates that Marvel will take care of Spiderman while Sony will be responsible for its promotion.

Spiderman will step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in "Captain America 3: Civil War" in which he plays a crucial role. Comic book fans know that he will usher in a new flock of superheroes after the death of Captain American in the third movie. However, MoviePilot notes that it is unclear how the Marvel-Sony collaboration will handle Spiderman's story since the reboot. Will Marvel go back to Spiderman's origin story in high school or will it show him as a married man as he is during the "Civil War" story? Fans would definitely like to see him grow up since many movie-goers already know about his origin story. However, it is clear that Spiderman will appear in "Civil War" before Marvel-Sony ventures to make a stand-alone movie of the friendly, neighborhood spider.

Andrew Garfield is definitely out of the race to play Spiderman, so who could be next? Initial reports suggest that "Teen Wolf" actor Dylan O'Brien or "Fury" actor Logan Lerman may be in the running to take Garfield's place. However, the choice of a younger actor hints that Marvel-Sony wish to go back to the origin story of the superhero.

One thing is certain: "The Amazing Spiderman 3" is cancelled for now.
