Fans mourned the death of Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) when episode 18 seemingly showed the character dying after giving birth to her child. Although some fans initially thought that Liz had faked her death and would eventually show up unscathed, many are now concerned that a central character may have really been killed off.

The episodes that took place after the event followed Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader) on the hunt for whoever played a part in Liz's death. And with her husband, Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold), leaving the show and moving on to a "The Blacklist" spinoff, things are not getting any better.

For a while, hope seemed to heighten when several sightings of Boone on set were reported. However, no actual photos of her were seen, crushing fans' expectations.

It was previously reported that Liz's death wasn't really given much emphasis, giving way to the hope that she's actually alive. Plus, Boone's real-life pregnancy led to a maternity leave, which is potentially why her character had to be written out—even if it's just momentarily.

Even if Liz is dead, showrunner Jon Bokenkamp told Golden Spiral Media that season 4 will pack a whole lot of punch and a great story, which means fans won't necessarily lose reasons to watch the show. Additionally, it is a general suspicion that Liz's true fate—being alive and well—might be revealed in the upcoming season. Since this is just a rumor, fans should take the news with a grain of salt.

For now, though, fans will have to settle for the season 3 finale of "The Blacklist," which teases Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) betraying Red. The episode, titled "Alexander Kirk: Conclusion," will air tonight, May 19 on NBC.

Season 4 of "The Blacklist" has not been given an exact release date yet, but rumor has it that a fall premiere is in the cards.

Stay tuned for the latest news and updates.
